Community support vital for site of new Brighton High School

A new $30 million Brighton High School is a transformational project for Brighton which will support future generations of learners in the region and their families.

A new high school is in addition to the Government’s existing $4.3 million commitment to re-develop the Jordan River Learning Federation school farm at Brighton, to realise a long held Paddock to Plate vision.

Combined, these two projects represent an incredible opportunity to position the Brighton municipality as a centre of quality education.

It is an exciting time in Brighton’s future and it is important that local communities and stakeholders, including the Jordan River Learning Federation support and are part of these plans.

Extensive site analysis and community consultations has made it clear that a new High School and the JRLF School Farm cannot fit on the same site.

Simply put the site occupied by the school farm is too small to be able to also accommodate the high school.

Today I have written to Brighton Mayor Tony Foster to advise him of that we will be consulting with the community on a more suitable site for a new High School.

It is incredibly important that the broader community is engaged in and supports not just the design of the new school, but also its location.

It is the Government’s intention to seek community feedback on identified sites to ensure that the final location reflects what the local community want.

We look forward to working in partnership with Brighton Council to develop a state of the art school that will benefit the students and families across the Municipality now and into the future.
