Gov. Edwards Releases Statement on the Passage of SCR 3 Out of Committee

Gov. John Bel Edwards issued the following statement after SCR 3 by Sen. Blade Morrish passed favorably out of the House Education Committee today.

Gov. Edwards said:

“I want to thank the House Education Committee for voting in favor of SCR3 by Sen. Blade Morrish and voting in favor of our teachers and students,” said Gov. Edwards. “It’s important that we include the proposed pay raise for teachers and support staff in the MFP so that it is recurring. This is how we will continue moving in the right direction of bringing teacher salaries up to their counterparts in other southern states this year and the coming years. As I have long said, the number one ingredient in a quality education is a professional, motivated and well-educated teacher in the classroom. Teachers and support personnel in the schools give so much to our students every day and we are now one step closer to giving them a pay raise that is long overdue and well deserved. This is something we can all support, and I believe this measure will ultimately be successful as it moves through the legislative process.”
