Concord, NH – Today, Governor Chris Sununu issued the following statement after the Senate Finance Committee voted to pass their version of the budget on a party line vote:
"Throughout this budget process, I have been incredibly transparent about the areas where I believe we can find great compromise with the Democrats. I have also been very clear about budgetary items I will veto. In the midst of a $250 million surplus, the Senate’s budget raises taxes, includes an income tax, and contains a $76 million structural deficit – which are irresponsible, unnecessary, and unprecedented."
"I appreciate that today’s vote by the Senate Finance Committee is another step in the budget process and acknowledge their budget contains some improvements from the House’s proposal. I am determined to pass a budget that does not raise taxes and is fiscally solvent, and look forward to continuing to work with the Legislature so that the we can come together on a commonsense compromise that balances the needs of the state with the concerns of our taxpayers."
