The Queensland Government received the Barrett Adolescent Centre Commission of Inquiry Report on 24 June this year, and after careful consideration of patient confidentiality, the report has now been released, along with the Government’s Response to the recommendations and findings.

The Government is committed to improving mental health services for young people in this State and has accepted all six recommendations made by the Commissioner, including the development of a new bed-based service for young people with severe and complex mental illness which aligns with the Government’s election commitment.
The Minister for Health will lead the development of a detailed implementation plan for the Government’s response to the Commission’s report, which will be considered by Government in the coming months. This planning process will include consumers and consumer organisations as committed to in the vision and 10-year strategy for health in Queensland My health, Queensland’s future: Advancing health 2026.
Volume 1 of the Commission’s report has been released in redacted form to protect patient confidentiality. Volume 2 of the Commissioner’s report contains highly confidential detailed personal patient information and, in accordance with the Commissioner’s recommendation, it will not be released publicly.
