Gov. Ricketts Highlights Legislative Session Results

Gov. Ricketts delivers remarks to the Legislature on the last day of its 2019 session.

LINCOLN – On Friday, Governor Pete Ricketts highlighted the results of the First Session of the 106th Legislature in his annual “Sine Die” address to the Unicameral on the final day of its 2019 session.

During the address the Governor praised Senators for taking action to aid Nebraskans affected by flooding, citing the Legislature’s provision of property tax relief for natural disaster victims and its allocation of $11 million to the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund.

“Our work to help Nebraskans overcome the devastation of flooding illustrates the power of working together,” Governor Ricketts said.  “When we pull together, we can do great things.  The recovery is ongoing, but we are on a good path to rebuilding bigger and better than before.”

He also commended the Legislature for other key results from the session:

  • Approving a budget for the 2019-2021 biennium and controlling spending to under 3%.
  • Including important budget priorities such as K-12 education and public safety initiatives.

  • Passing LB 103 to stop automatic property tax increases.
  • Increasing the Property Tax Credit Relief Fund by $51 million for a total of $550 million in direct property tax relief to Nebraskans over the next two years.
  • Merging state agencies to create the Department of Environment and Energy.
  • Passing new pro-life legislation to strengthen the state’s informed consent laws.
