Additional flights from seven airlines into Brisbane, Cairns and the Gold Coast over the last 12 months are expected to bring an extra 187,000 visitors to Queensland and offer up to $255 million in extra economic activity each year as a vital boost to local businesses.
Securing the extra flights has been a direct result of the $10 million boost from the government to the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund in 2015, which has secured new partnerships with Silk Air, Qantas, Jetstar, Hong Kong Airlines and Air Canada over the past 12 months.
“It’s not just more tourists and jobs for Queensland, it’s strengthening our links through trade, education and investment,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
Securing more international flights to Queensland has been crucial to growing the state’s $23 billion tourism industry.
