State Emergency Service has been equipped with a new 128-person portable basecamp, which will be on-show at this weekend’s State Rescue Challenge, thanks to the State and Commonwealth Governments’ disaster resilience funding.
The Marshall Liberal Government is building the emergency services sector in South Australia and is pleased to announce the investment of $941,000 towards a new basecamp solution for the SES which has been jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth under the Natural Disaster Resilience Program.
The basecamp solution, known as the Humanihut, is a portable shelter which will provide accommodation for frontline responders to emergencies and will be on-show at the SES State Rescue Challenge.
The SES has an operational role to provide basecamps during emergencies and the Minister for Emergency Services Corey Wingard said this basecamp solution ticks all the boxes for the SES.
“The Humanihut solution delivers a 128-person basecamp which can be transported to the site of an emergency by the SES,” said Minister Wingard.
“It’s portable, easy to set-up, and most importantly, it will help our frontline responders carry out their work and provide shelter from the conditions.”
Apart from accommodation, the Humanihut solution also includes shower facilities.
“Our emergency services workers on the frontline deserve the best equipment and the best facilities,” continued Minister Wingard.

The public are welcome to attend the challenge tomorrow morning between 9.30am and 10.30am and between 11.15am and 12.15pm at two locations – north of the city at Enfield SES Unit, Hoods Road, Northfield and south at Noarlunga SES Unit, corner of Lindsay and Brian Roads, Lonsdale.
Enclosed footwear must be worn onsite.
