Education a priority for Palaszczuk Government

Our commitment to education is on track with the announcement of three new schools to be built in the growing communities of Yarrabilba, Coomera and Caloundra South by 2019.

Catering for around 1000 students each, the new schools will give young people a world-class education with exceptional teachers, in modern high-quality learning environments.

“These three schools are in high growth corridors, with tens of thousands of new residents expected in each community in the coming decades, and are estimated to cost around $147 million,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“When combined with other new schools in Townsville, Calliope and Cairns, it brings our investment in brand new schools to $312 million, supporting over 900 jobs.”

The projects will go to tender as part of a joint procurement package, with the use of local labour a priority.

“Under the government’s apprentice guarantee, 10% of employees working on a project must be apprentices or trainees,” Education Minister Kate Jones said.

“This means younger Queenslanders can benefit more from government investment in infrastructure.”

Companies interested in tendering for related projects can search for opportunities through QTenders.
