Townsville Community Cabinet

168

The first Community Cabinet of the Palaszczuk Government was held in Townsville on 29–30 March 2015.

Community Cabinet is an opportunity for the government to listen to local businesses, families and workers to hear about their ideas to help make their community a better place and to discuss the issues that are important to them, directly with a Minister or senior departmental official.

The Palaszczuk Government believes in consensus and consultation and with over 250 formal and informal deputations, Townsville residents were able to speak directly with the Government on a variety of issues.

The Cabinet also had the opportunity to meet further with the Townsville community, at a reception hosted by the Mayor of Townsville, Cr Jenny Hill, where the Premier presented Mayor Hill with a framed picture of Castle Hill from 1897.

The Townsville business community and community organisations joined Cabinet Ministers at a breakfast hosted by Townsville Enterprise, which enabled further discussions to continue, in particular the importance of jobs and job creation for Queensland and the Townsville region.

Special thanks to the staff and students of Heatley Secondary College for their warm welcome and allowing the Government to use their facilities to host the Townsville Community Cabinet.
