The Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a press conference on March 10. It announced that the 2022 Hunan Canola Flower Festival will open in Dingcheng District, Changde City on March 15.
Hunan Province is a major canola oil producer. It has a perennial planting area of about 20 million mu (1,333,333 ha.), ranking first nationwide. The province has integrated canola oil industry with leisure agriculture and rural tourism to boost rural revitalization. According to preliminary statistics, a total of 38 counties in the province held canola flower festival in 2021 alone, attracting 5.87 million tourist arrivals and generating tourism revenue of 2.14 billion yuan.
This year the Hunan Provincial People’s Government has approved to hold a canola flower festival. The main venue is in Dingcheng District and the sub-venues are in Hengyang, Chaling, and Shuangfeng counties, Wugang county-level city, and Junshan District. The festival will last from March 15 to early April. Exhibitions on machinery and technology promotion, and products, and folk customs will be arranged. During the festival, tourists can admire flowers, go shopping, and taste gourmet food.
