Premier John Horgan will travel to France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands from June 4-13, 2019, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy at Juno Beach and promote trade and investment opportunities in European markets.

Premier Horgan will attend a ceremony at Juno Beach, France to honour the 14,000 brave Canadians who landed there on June 6, 1944, and the 90,000 Canadians who fought for freedom in the Battle of Normandy. Victory came with great sacrifice – 359 Canadian soldiers were killed on D-Day, including 19 British Columbians, and more than 5,000 Canadians died during the ensuing two months of battle in Normandy.

Premier Horgan will attend the D-Day Memorial Ceremony at Juno Beach to recognize this important day in history on behalf of B.C. veterans, their families and all British Columbians.

Premier Horgan attended local ceremonies recognizing Canada’s contributions to D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, including a commemorative event at Fort Rodd Hill and a veterans’ tea at Government House hosted by Lt. Gov. Janet Austin.

The nine-day working visit will also include meetings with government officials and business representatives in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, to attract job-creating trade and business investment and promote B.C.’s energy, clean tech and renewable energy sectors.

This is an important time for the Province to engage with these markets, strengthen relationships, attract investment and promote new opportunities for companies in Europe to create good jobs in B.C.

B.C.’s sustainable economic goals align closely with these European markets, and there are new opportunities for trade and investment under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union.

Meetings will include promotion of B.C.’s work to grow innovation and seize new, clean-economy opportunities through CleanBC.
