FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs regarding the competition to hire New Brunswick’s next commissioner of official languages:
Legislative officers provide an important, independent voice for New Brunswickers.
Due to the timing of last year’s election, there were delays in the process to hire a new official languages commissioner. Given this, the best course of action was to cancel the competition and reissue a new one.
An independent process will be followed to select viable candidates. It will involve an independent selection committee, which will recommend candidates to cabinet. All political parties will be consulted before a candidate is put forward for appointment. All candidates who applied under the previous competition will be invited to reapply.
More details will be announced when possible and appropriate.
