Yukon’s Premier, Cabinet members, Council of Yukon First Nation’s Grand Chief and Yukon First Nations Chiefs met today at the Village of Carmacks Recreation Hall for the second Yukon Forum of 2019.
Leaders discussed climate change and the development of a more robust intergovernmental collaboration in this area. This conversation included discussions regarding carbon pricing and wildland fire management.
Leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on heritage management. This is an outcome of the Yukon Forum Action Plan and formalizes the Heritage Working Group, which includes representatives from Yukon First Nations governments and Government of Yukon, with support from Council of Yukon First Nations.
Leaders also discussed the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, Yukon’s Joint Education Action Plan, the Comprehensive Review of health and social services and legislation around resources.
Our work together through the Yukon Forum continues to set us on the path to reconciliation. We appreciate occasions to meet as equal governments engaging in nation-to-nation discussions about complex issues and opportunities.

The Yukon Forum meets four times a year.
This is the 10th Yukon Forum meeting since signing the Working Together Declaration in January 2017.
