In response to a request from the evaluators of the Government’s Tackling Alcohol-fuelled Violence Policy, their final report will now be delivered on 2 April 2019 to allow the consideration of further key data.
The extended timeframe will ensure the independent evaluation team is able to consider all critical administrative datasets, such as hospital admissions, court data, fatal and non-fatal crash data and comparative site data.
The extension to the final report date will allow for further detailed analysis along with a peer review process of the final report. This will ensure that the final report does not compromise on quality and is a comprehensive document that can guide government decision-making in the future.
The revised due date will not come at any additional cost to the project.
Deakin University, working with the University of Queensland, James Cook University and LaTrobe University, were chosen to undertake the evaluation following an open tender process.
The evaluation forms part of the Government’s commitment to effective and evidence-based alcohol-fuelled violence policy. The Government is supportive of delivering vibrant night time economies while ensuring the community is safe from alcohol-fuelled violence.
Ahead of the Government’s consideration of the final evaluation report, the Government has considered industry concerns about how the ID Scanner regulatory regime impacts on their businesses.
The Attorney-General will be discussing with industry stakeholders how the Government can work with them to address those concerns, without compromising community safety in the operation of the ID Scanner system.
ID scanners are a key part of the Palaszczuk Government’s strategy to tackle alcohol-fuelled violence and are designed to keep patrons who have a history of violence out of our venues to ensure people can have a fun and safe night out. The legislation gives venues the ability to identify banned patrons who have a history of violence and will operate as a deterrent to trouble-makers and provide a safer environment for everyone.
