Released on May 30, 2019

A public inquest into the death of Joshua Megeney will be held June 24 to 28, 2019, at the Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.  The first day of the inquest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with remaining start times to be determined by the presiding coroner.

On October 6, 2016, the Saskatoon Police Service was called to a home for a reported break and enter in progress.  Officers came upon a locked and barricaded door.  Megeney, 28, was found deceased after a standoff with police.

Section 19 of The Coroners Act, 1999 states that the Chief Coroner may direct that an inquest be held into the death of any person.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths.  The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death.  The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.

Coroner Alma Wiebe, Q.C. will preside at the inquest.
