As part of its ongoing work to connect people to treatment and recovery services and raise awareness about addiction, the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions is providing $100,000 to Last Door Recovery Society to support the 2019 Building Recovery Capital in Canada campaign.
The 2019 Building Recovery Capital campaign will educate British Columbians about the social, material, human and cultural capital supports that play an important role in wellness and recovery. The campaign will focus on reducing stigma, promoting prevention, engaging youth and increasing access to treatment and service options.
“There is no one path to hope and healing, no one-size-fits-all approach to treatment and recovery,” said Judy Darcy, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. “In the midst of this overdose crisis, we are excited to support the Recovery Capital initiative as we work to build a full continuum of mental health and addiction treatment options to support people on their healing journeys.”
“Recovery Capital provides the whole-person-centred focus necessary for recovery-oriented systems of care that engage the many community-based pathways of healing, recovery and wellness,” said Jessica Cooksey, operations manager, Last Door Recovery Society.
This year’s campaign includes three major public awareness and educational events that encourage and celebrate British Columbians recovering from drug or alcohol addictions:
- Clean Sober and Proud – Aug. 4, 2019
- Recovery Capital Conference – Sept. 5-6, 2019
- Recovery Day BC – Sept. 7, 2019
“Finding my recovery capital has helped me understand my areas of self-esteem that led me to want to find healing from addiction,” said Alexander P., a Last Door Recovery Society client. “It gave me the courage to look into my heritage and be proud of who I am. I participated in my community, I developed friendships and acquired meaningful work, which has improved my confidence to live in long-lasting recovery and have an exciting future.”
Last Door Recovery Society has provided addiction treatment services to clients from across Canada for over 35 years. The accredited organization has two core programs: The Last Door Adult Program and the Last Door Youth Program, as well as several adjunct treatment programs for families and partners of clients.
