The Manitoba government, at the request of the Ontario government, will support the evacuation of residents from Pikangikum First Nation in Ontario.  The community, about 100 kilometres north of Red Lake, is threatened by wildfire and smoke.

The Manitoba government’s Emergency Measures Organization is working with officials from Ontario and Indigenous Services Canada as well as the Canadian Red Cross and the City of Winnipeg to co-ordinate temporary lodging and essential services to evacuees.  Hundreds of the community’s most vulnerable persons have been airlifted to Ontario centres.
