Rockhampton and Yeppoon Community Cabinet

185

The second Community Cabinet of the Palaszczuk Government was held in Rockhampton and Yeppoon on 24–25 May 2015.

The Premier and her Cabinet took this opportunity to reconnect with the community after Cyclone Marcia brought devastation to the Central Queensland region. The Premier is committed to the rebuilding and restoration of communities still feeling the effects of the cyclone which tore through the region in February 2015.

The Community Cabinet gave local businesses, organisations, families and individuals a chance to bring forward their ideas to help improve their region, as well as speak directly to Ministers and senior government officials.

The Palaszczuk Government received over 270 formal requests for meetings with more informal meetings taken. This highlights the Palaszczuk Government’s continued commitment to open and consultative governance.

The Cabinet also had the opportunity to meet with Mayors Ron Carige (Banana Shire Council), Bill Ludwig (Livingstone Shire Council) and Margaret Strelow (Rockhampton Regional Council) at a community reception at the Archer Park Rail Museum, hosted by the Premier.

Special thanks to the staff and students of North Rockhampton State High School for their warm welcome and for hosting the second Community Cabinet. Special mention to The Criterion Hotel for serving excellent steaks, showcasing what Rockhampton is truly well-known for.

And finally, thank you to the people of the Rockhampton and Keppel communities for welcoming us to your beautiful region.
