POKEMOUCHE (GNB) – The community of Pokemouche has been chosen to host the province’s official 2019 New Brunswick Day celebration on Monday, Aug. 5.

“New Brunswick Day is a chance to celebrate the province’s most valuable asset, our people,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “I encourage all New Brunswickers to take part in the festivities to honour our history, our cultures, and the achievements of our residents.”

“I am pleased that the New Brunswick Day celebration is being held on the Acadian Peninsula this year,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Robert Gauvin. “I am convinced that the people of Pokemouche and the surrounding area will provide all New Brunswickers with memorable festivities that will highlight our rich heritage, the natural beauty of the area, the vitality of our cultures, and our legendary hospitality.”

“This opportunity to host the people of New Brunswick will put our community and its residents on show, reflecting the dynamism of the Acadian Peninsula,” said organizing committee chair Jonathan Sonier. “We invite you to this event of significance for our region. We will welcome you with open arms.”

New Brunswick Day has been celebrated since 1976. An official host community has been chosen since 1990.
