The chair of the Pension Commission of Manitoba has been reappointed and one new member appointed as actuary, and a new member has been appointed to the Manitoba Securities Commission, Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced today.

“The Pension Commission and the Manitoba Securities Commission are independent decision-making bodies that oversee important aspects of the lives of Manitobans,” said Fielding.  “It is important the people appointed to these commissions are highly qualified, experienced individuals.”

The Pension Commission of Manitoba and the Superintendent of Pensions play a vital role on behalf of working people with a pension and retired Manitobans overseeing Manitoba’s workplace or registered pension plans run by employers, groups of employers or unions for their employees or members.

Tim McGorman of Winnipeg is reappointed as chair of the Pension Commission.  He is a partner with Ellement Consulting Group, and has 30 years of experience as a consultant and actuary, and is responsible for actuarial and investment consulting in all types of pension and other retirement programs.

Greg Gillis of Winnipeg is appointed to the Pension Commission, and is a financial advisor with Lawton Partners, a CFA charter holder, as well as a qualified pension actuary.  Prior to joining Lawton Partners, Gillis was a vice-president with a global actuarial and benefits consulting firm.

The Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) works to protect the public, and to foster fair and efficient capital and real-estate markets.  To fulfil this mandate, the commission requires its members to have specialized expertise in the legal or accounting fields or the securities or investment industries.

Linda Vincent of Winnipeg has been appointed to the MSC.  She was with ICE Futures Canada and ICE Clear Canada as senior vice-president and general counsel.  She has also served as general counsel and vice-president of market regulation for the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange, and associate counsel to the Manitoba Securities Commission.

These appointments are part of the Manitoba government’s efforts to continue to refresh the agencies, boards and commissions of the province, ensuring that Manitobans continue to be represented in these important positions by highly qualified and enthusiastic individuals, the minister said.
