PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey today released the following statement honoring the life of Navajo Code Talker William Tully Brown, who passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019. Born in Black Mountain, Brown enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
“Arizona and the Navajo Nation have lost another patriot with the passing of William Tully Brown, who honorably served our country during a time of great need as a Navajo Code Talker,” said Governor Ducey. “The contributions of the Code Talkers and the use of their native language helped secure victory in World War II, and we will never forget the impact of their service. Arizona expresses our condolences to his family, friends and community members who mourn his passing.”
For his service in World War II, William Tully Brown earned the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Honorable Service Lapel Button.
